« Statue of humanity » était une sculpture de 30 mètres de hauteur, construite sur une colline de la ville turque de Kars, très proche de la frontière arménienne. Elle a été pensée par le sculpteur Mehmet Aksoy comme un symbole de paix avec l’Arménie et devait, de par sa taille être visible depuis la frontière. La sculpture aura existé moins de 3 ans avant d’être détruite sur ordre du gouvernement, ainsi que toutes les traces qui s’y rattachent. Ce projet nous donne à voir la reconstruction d’une partie de cette statue (la main) afin de faire réapparaître cette œuvre, comme une survivance, une forme résurgente, résistante, une « image-luciole » dont le déclin ne signifie pas la disparition.

“Statue of humanity” was a sculpture 30 meters high, built on a hill in the Turkish city of Kars, very close to the Armenian border. It was thought by the sculptor Mehmet Aksoy as a symbol of peace with Armenia and, due to its size, had to be visible from the border. The sculpture will have existed for less than 3 years before being destroyed by order of the government, along with all the traces attached to it. This project gives us to see the reconstruction of part of this statue (the hand) in order to make this work reappear, as a survival, a resurgent, resistant form, a "firefly image" whose decline does not mean the disappearance.
